Royal Tunbridge Wells
Kent England
The Olde Home Town
Royal Tunbridge Wells was discovered in the woods in 1606 by a man called Lord North who was reputed to be looking for a good place to relieve himself and wash his socks. Later he called it the Chalybeate spring which incidentally nobody has ever been able to say properly since . The spring can still be seen in action today on one of the oldest shopping malls ever built called the Pantiles.
The Pantiles
Royal Tunbridge Wells has some great pubs/ bars although the English licensing laws still prevent late night drinking which undoubtedly adds to the mystique of having a last few drinks before last orders therefore allowing everyone to leave at the same time, all completely smashed, then the ritual of going to the local curry house or other such establishments to eat and wonder why you ordered so much.
Calverly Park
Unfortunately Royal Tunbridge Wells is still biased towards the elderly and wealthy although in recent years this does appear to be changing, there are less elderly, or is it because I am more elderly?
One of the famous attractions of the Pantiles is the virtual history museum called A Day At The Wells. Here we see a lucky member of the public being allowed to interact at the museum.
